FAQ about Anesthetics Drug
How long does it take to recover from anesthesia?
The anesthesia drugs that you have been given can remain in your body for up to 24 hours after their administration. You are not completely “back to your old self” until the anesthetic has been totally eliminated.
What are the long term effects of anesthesia?
Long-term consequences of anesthetic exposure in humans are not well understood. It is possible that alterations in brain function occur beyond the initial anesthetic administration. Research in children and adults has reported cognitive and/or behavioral changes after surgery and general anesthesia that may be short lived in some patients, while in others, such changes may persist.
How long does anesthesia stay in your system?
The effects of general anesthesia for even minor surgery persist in the body for around 24 hours, which is why you are not allowed to drive yourself home and should be supervised by a responsible adult within that time frame. If the anesthesia has been prolonged, then the recovery period is greatly extended.
